Nysted church /Nysted kirke, Musse herred, Maribo amt.
Nysted church is from about the 1300s. The Gothic longhouse and the Late Gothic tower and sacristi are built in old bricks (munkesten). The tall pretty Baroque spire is from 1649-50 and was used as a seamark . The church has gone through several rebuildings and restorations.
The altarpiece is Baroque from 1693 given to the church by Fr. Suhr. The baptismal font is bronze with a brass basin given to the church 1697 by Paaske Jensen and his wife Maren Jørgensdatter.
The choir crucifix is Gothic from ab. 1340-1400. The pulpit with a sounding-board is Renaissance from 1605.
In the National Museum in Copenhagen are some pieces from Nysted church: chalice and table from the end of the 1300s and a wine jug from 1593.
Families connected to the church via memory tables, grave chapels,epitaphs: Raben-Levetzau, von Papenhein, Urne, Lerche, von Buchwald.
Five church bells 1) Femklokken ( the Fivebell) from the beginning of the 1300s 2) Tolvklokken ( the Twelvebell) from 1400s 3) a bell from 1400s and 4 ( a bell from 1699 made by Jacob Jeremisen.
